We are all reeling at the sticker shock at our grocery store. We choose to eat healthy; but the money only goes so far so what can we do?
First plan your meals and then shop your pantry. Now we have our menu for the next 2 weeks. Plan a meatless meal each week; this will save money. We can stretch the budget by adding potatoes, rice and beans to our menus.
Check stores for sales and coupons. You can also download apps to your phone and save money. This will also save trips to the store which will save you money!
Check the clearance bins and shop Farmers Markets. Grow your own veggies from your kitchen scraps.
Root vegetables: Beets, carrots, celery root (celeriac), parsnips, parsley root, rutabagas, turnips, and winter radishes.
Leafy greens: Lettuce, bok choy, and other leafy greens.
Herbs: Green onions, basil, cilantro, and other herbs.
Others: Potatoes, sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, leeks, and shallots.
These will be a good start to cutting your grocery bill.
You will want to batch some of your meals; example make chili and double your recipe, freeze one batch and serve the other.
Avoid processed foods this will save you money and be healthy choices for you and your family.
Grow your veggies and herbs from scraps: cut off tops of carrots and celery place in water root and plant. Same with your herbs.
Save your bones, veggie scraps, veggie peels and put in a freezer bag to make your own soup stock.
Using your crockpot makes life easy; making soups and stews for a first course will stretch your budget.
Stick to your menu, use your coupons shop sales and always shop your pantry first. Enjoy your savings in this inflated economy.
